Will be missed Sandoval
The Tucson Service Unit mourns the loss of Ramon Sandoval, track supervisor
who died Sept. 7 at age 52.
Sandoval joined the Southern Pacific Railroad Feb. 9, 1976, in Gila Bend,
Ariz.
He was born Aug. 31, 1955, in Zacatecas, Mexico, and moved to Arizona in 1965
with his family. He graduated from high school in 1975. He and his wife, Bonnie,
were married June 4, 1977, in Yuma.
Sandoval was a wonderful son, brother,
husband, father, grandfather and uncle.
He gave his time and energy coaching and
supporting his sons, nephews, nieces and
others in sports in Gila Bend.He is survived by Bonnie; sons, Brad
and Ramon Jr.; grandsons, Skyler and
Zane Sandoval; father, Jesus; siblings
Sylvia Davidson, Cecilia McCollough,
Isabel Marquez, Angie Sandoval, Martin
Sandoval and Maribel Sandoval; and
several nephews and nieces. He was preceded
in death by his mother, Angelina,
and brother, Joe.
UP gave a special tribute in conjunction
with his funeral service. After the
funeral cortege left the church and proceeded
toward the cemetery, the coach
carrying Sandoval’s body was stopped
by the arms at the Martin Avenue grade
crossing. The eastbound train stopped
just short of the crossing, and the arms
were raised allowing the procession
to continue. As they passed, the crew
sounded the train’s bell and whistle in a
special rhythm — one long whistle while
the coach and family passed, followed by
short blasts for the balance of the procession,
in honor of their comrade.
